Staff Mini-Autobiography – Barbara Hughes
Barbara Jo Hughes
Administrative Assistant
Baptized as an infant and raised in the Presbyterian Church in Bowie, Maryland, I moved to Cape Coral, Florida with my family in 1971. In 1982 I came to Orlando to complete my education at UCF. While working in various business positions (retail management, banking and office management), I earned a B.S. Degree in Psychology from UCF in 1986 but continued doing office management work for an Orlando CPA firm. I was the Controller for a Hearing Aid Manufacturer in the 1980s and went on to become involved in the Bank Equipment business through 2010.
I first joined First Presbyterian Church DeLand in 2000 with my mother and brother. I returned to FPCD at the end of 2010 and was hired as the office manager at the First Presbyterian School in November 2011. On December 15, 2013, I accepted the position of Executive Assistant in the FPCD church office. I also assist our church Finance Manager and continue helping the school by serving on the First Presbyterian School Board.
My hobbies are basket weaving and playing the mountain dulcimer with a local group, “The Picky Chics”.
I am truly blessed by all the members and staff of First Pres DeLand. It is with great peace and joy that I have found a loving and caring work-home. I believe in our vision: To proclaim Jesus Christ and be His hands and feet to the world! Psalm 42:8
